Simple Quiche - The Ultimate Multi-Tasking Meal

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsrecipesdinner

Add a few evening classes to the already hectic schedule of a young family with a working mom and you're asking for fast food dinners.  This has been my reality since the beginning of January.  Two nights a week, my husband has evening classes leaving us only 30 minutes in the evening when everyone is home and available for a meal.  Even Rachel Ray couldn't pull that one off

Recession Proof Women

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsrecession

With the recent economic climate, an increasing number of American workers are claiming unemployment.  The vast majority of those Americans are men, 82% as a matter of fact, as women are poised to eventually outnumber men in the workforce altogether.

Women's status as recession-proof is

Government's Responsibilities

Posted by Amy Beekley in Untagged

In a recent blog post, Dani mentioned several projects and priorities that our elected government officials felt important to fund as part of their economic stimulus plans.  I find it interesting that among these projects, our government officials also feel the need to ensure

How to Throw a Child's Birthday Party

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsbirthday parties

Child birthday parties are the true test of motherhood and a greater challenge for working moms who may spend hours a day researching themes and party games at the office but are without extra time in the day to create award winning cakes and over the top decorations.  This past weekend, we celebrated my son's fifth birthday with what has now been deemed "parental suicide" by every

Logic vs. Mother's Intuition

Posted by Amy Beekley in Untagged

In the book of Matthew in chapter 7, we are asked: 9 "Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?"  And in many parenting circumstances, our decisions are just this simple.  When my son says he's hungry, I give him a snack - some bread but not a stone.

However, earlier this week, in the middle of the

Not Such a Green Mama

Posted by Amy Beekley in recycling

Our new township does not offer curbside recycling (we don't actually have any curbs on the country roads, but that's another story).  For the first several months in our new house, we would store up a box full of recyclables which we would then transport to a roadside recycling center about twenty minutes up the local route.  Sorting the recycleables by hand and even remembering

Where Were You Inauguration Day

Posted by Amy Beekley in Untagged

Yesterday at noon, my coworkers and I crowded around a TV in the conference room at work to watch Barack Obama's inauguration speech live.  For an hour or so, the office phones were quiet and no one entered through the front door.  The world had paused to watch history.

This was truly one of those "where were you" moments.  Right up there with the assassination of Kennedy

The Role of a Daycare Provider

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsdaycare

Job descriptions are important.  They outline our day-to-day responsibilities and provide a hierarchy of priority.  Job descriptions give our superiors a rubric by which to evaluate our performance and give us a snapshot of expectations.  Far and away though, the most important line item in a job description reads, "Other duties as assigned."

After two very quick weeks

Why New Year's Resolutions Fail

Posted by Amy Beekley in Untagged

Only a few short weeks ago, we rung in the New Year with resolutions to be better.  We set out with the best of intentions to eat well, exercise more, be kinder, gentler, and more loving.  How's that going?

In truth, most New Year's

Today is D-Day

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsseparation anxietydaycare

Following the chaotic Fall my family has endured, then the holiday season, my children have been living without strict adherence to a schedule for months.  Days without naps, late lunches and even later bedtimes that revolve around Mommy and Daddy's schedules have become the norm and my children have dealt with it all so well.  But today that all changed; today was D-Day, the first day
