Resolve to Be Kind

Posted by Amy Beekley in kindness

How many years in a row can we resolve to loose weight, eat healthier, and get out of debt?  Valiant ideas as they all are, I am resolving this year to pour my efforts into something that will affect more of the people around me providing me with continuous inspiration to continue my healthy new behaviors.  I am resolving this year to commit one random act of kindness each and every day

Is a Messy House a "Working Mom Thing"?

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momshouse guestsHolidayscleaning

The holidays have been overwhelming despite my best efforts to relax, enjoy, and teach my kids about the true meaning of the Christmas season.  Just two days after my immediate family moved into our new Pennsylvania home with me, the Christmas rush began.  My parents arrived, a day later my sister and brother-in-law arrived.  My in-laws arrived with my husband's grandfather

Working in More Activity at the Office

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momshealthexercise

I work in a small office which means that I don't have the option of walking laps or running to the bathroom on the far side of the building in order to fit in my daily quota of activity.  I am, however, looking ahead to a New Year and resolving to maintain my activity level and hopefully my waistline as well.

New Year's resolutions are never without their challenges; we wouldn

Christmas Menu Inspiration

Posted by Amy Beekley in recipesChristmas

I am a self-proclaimed failure at following recipes, but I do love to peruse cookbooks and recipe websites for inspiration.  Yesterday, I had a feast planned for my family and my in-laws.  When weather prevented several family members from making the trip, I found myself revising our Christmas Dinner menu mid-day.  For your inspiration, here is what ended up on our table:

Praise for Home Daycare

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsmovingdaycare

One of the very first posts I wrote for Tots2Tweens was about the saving grace of a good daycare situation.  Working moms who have good relationships with their providers experience less anxiety.  Flexible and understanding daycare situations result in fewer sick days taken.  A

Working Women and the Blues

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momshealthdepression

It used to be believed that one in five working women were clinically depressed.  A recent survey conducted by Working Mother Magazine, however, found that over 90% of respondents showed symptoms of depression.  To avoid making unscientific claims

Without Her Kids...

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsfamilies

...a mom is still a mom!

If you ask most moms what has changed since they had kids, most will mention their burgeoning waistline.  Don't worry, New Years is coming for another round of healthy resolutions.  Other moms will mention a messier house or an uncontrollable calendar.  Too bad we aren't as quick to mention all the wonderful things we realize with new motherhood.&

Working While Pregnant

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momspregnancy

When I was pregnant with my first son, I led the leisurely life of a full-time college student and a part time medical receptionist.  This schedule allowed time daily for naps and a good night sleep each night.  By my second pregnancy, I was working full time with a lengthy commute and chasing my two year old around each evening.  Nothing I experienced in my second pregnancy was

I Need a Silent Night

Posted by Amy Beekley in working momsChristmas

I turned my calendar to December earlier this week and almost began laughing out loud when I saw December marked at National Stress-Free Family Holidays Month.  Who do they think they are kidding?  In the workplace, December is more like National Lowered Productivity Month as workers spend extended lunch breaks at the mall, spend hours on the clock shopping online, and
